…rejects allegations of regional preference, political endorsements
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly denied circulating reports suggesting he made statements on which region should produce Nigeria’s president in 2027.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, El-Rufai described the claims as “false and misleading,” adding that they did not reflect his views in any form.
“These reports are untrue, despite their wide circulation. I did not make such comments in any speech, interview, or post on my verified platforms,” he said.
The allegations, which gained traction on social media, also suggested that El-Rufai was backing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar claims he dismissed outright.
El-Rufai warned that the spread of misinformation was dangerous, particularly with political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He called on media professionals and influential voices to verify information before sharing or publishing it.
“The obligation to verify information before posting or publishing has never been more important. Senior editors and commentators must not fuel misinformation by aligning with unverified social media claims,” he added.
He urged Nigerians and political actors alike to act responsibly and avoid spreading unconfirmed political narratives.
