2 docked over alleged theft of palm kernel, iron parts

Two men, Tijani Oseni and Ismaila  Ayorinde were on Monday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, over alleged stealing of palm kernel and iron parts.

Oseni, 37, and Ayorinde, 46, are being charged with stealing and receiving stolen property, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Opeyemi Lawal told the court that the defendants committed the offences at about 1.00p.m on Aug. 14, at Imo Emulu Village, Owode-Egba, Abeokuta.

Lawal said that Oseni, a security guard at Evolution Transport and Agric Business, stole palm kernel valued N50,000 and iron parts valued N200,000 belonging to his employer.

He further stated that Ayorinde received the palm kernel and iron parts knowing that they were stolen.

The prosecutor said that the defendants were not aware that the CCTV at the premises was functional, and got them recorded.

He said that during interrogation, Oseni confessed that he had been committing similar crimes with Ayorinde.

Lawal said that the offences contravened Sections 383, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Miss O.T Odubanjo, granted Oseni and Ayorinde bail in the sum of N500,000 and N100,000 respectively, with one surety each in like sum.

Odubanjo said that the sureties must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary.

She ordered that Oseni and Ayorinde be remain in custody at the Oba Correctional Centre pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 14, for hearing.
