NBA seeks FG intervention on Secretariat road, drainage

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention regarding the poor condition of the access road and drainage system surrounding its national secretariat.

The appeal was made by the NBA President, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, when she led a delegation of association executives on a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., in Abuja recently.

While commending the Ministry for its ongoing infrastructure strides across the country including major regional projects such as the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya drew the Minister’s attention to the specific infrastructure and environmental challenges confronting the immediate vicinity of the NBA headquarters.

In addition to the appeal for road and drainage rehabilitation, the NBA President used the platform to explore a deeper institutional partnership with the Federal Ministry of Works.

She emphasized the association’s readiness to support the government through legal advisory services, contract reviews, capacity development, and specialized alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as construction arbitration to help prevent prolonged project delays.

Responding to the requests, Minister Goronyo congratulated Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya on her assumption of office and welcomed the NBA’s offer of professional collaboration, noting that sound contractual frameworks are indispensable to effective infrastructure delivery.

On the specific concerns raised regarding the NBA Secretariat, the Minister assured the delegation that the Ministry would immediately review the complaints and direct the appropriate technical department to assess the road and drainage challenges for necessary action.
