A tragic incident was recorded on May 27, 2026, during the Ileya celebration in Ode Remo, Ogun State, where a woman identified as Fatimo Disu lost her life after being mistaken for another individual, Modupe Monsurat Owolabi.

According to reports, Modupe Monsurat Owolabi had been sought by both community members and local authorities prior to the incident after allegedly being caught engaging in an indecent act with another woman. Fatimo Disu was mistakenly targeted in her stead, resulting in the tragic occurrence.

Eyewitnesses stated that Disu had traveled to visit relatives and celebrate Ileya with her family. A mob attacked her under the mistaken belief that she was Owolabi. Following the assault, Disu was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was unfortunately confirmed dead due to the severity of her injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attackers realized their mistake only after relatives and local residents identified Disu and clarified her identity.

The incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage within the community, with residents demanding justice and a thorough investigation.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and have strongly urged the public to refrain from jungle justice, taking the law into their own hands, or spreading unverified information.
