A 22-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, who was remanded by the Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court, Ado Ekiti District, for allegedly inflicting injury on the manhood of her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, has regained her freedom after meeting her bail conditions.
Ikoja had been in custody at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre since April 12, 2025, when she was arraigned for allegedly tearing her boyfriend’s scrotal sac during a scuffle at Irona area of Ado Ekiti.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, the defendant unlawfully inflicted a wound on the victim around 8 p.m. on the said date.
The case was first heard before Magistrate Oluwatomiwa Daramola, where the defence counsel, Barrister David Ogbede, pleaded for the court to grant bail to the accused. However, the prosecutor opposed the application, arguing that the defendant might abscond if released.
In his ruling, Magistrate Daramola denied the bail request and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre.
The matter was later reassigned to Special Court 2, presided over by Justice Omoleye. A fresh bail application was filed, but the defendant’s release was delayed due to what her counsel described as “stringent bail conditions.”
Speaking on Tuesday, the defence counsel, Barrister David Ogbede, confirmed that the accused had finally perfected her bail conditions.
“Yes, we filed her bail application, and the court granted it about two months ago. However, she was unable to meet the conditions at the time. Thankfully, those conditions were fully met yesterday, and I am glad to inform you that Joy Ikoja has been released from custody. She will henceforth attend court proceedings from home,” Ogbede stated.
