Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has lauded the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) for its 25 years of consistent service and transformative impact on women, families, and communities across Lagos State.

Speaking at the opening of the 25th National Women’s Conference organised by COWLSO at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the group as “a movement that has transformed compassion into community impact, and inspiration into enduring legacy.”

The Governor noted that COWLSO has evolved from a modest initiative into a dynamic platform for social change, touching countless lives through healthcare outreach, educational support, empowerment programmes, and community projects.

He stated: “Over the past quarter-century, COWLSO has grown from a modest initiative into a dynamic platform of change one that has touched countless lives through healthcare missions, educational support, empowerment programmes, and community development projects,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He paid glowing tribute to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for reviving the organisation during her tenure as First Lady of Lagos State, saying her foresight and leadership repositioned COWLSO as a driving force for women’s empowerment.

Sanwo-Olu also commended his wife and current Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for her tireless dedication to women’s development and family welfare, acknowledging her co-convener, Chief Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, and the Conference Chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayemi Oke-Osanyitolu, for their commitment to sustaining the vision.

He said the theme of this year’s conference, “25 Years of Visionary Legacy: Inspiring the Next Generation,” highlights the need to equip young women with the courage, integrity, and resilience to lead in their communities.

“Inspiring the next generation means more than mentorship; it means modelling excellence, integrity, and resilience. The future of Lagos and indeed our nation depends on how boldly we equip our women to lead with courage and conviction,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.

The Governor also highlighted the social impact of the annual Gala Night Raffle Draw, describing it as a blend of celebration and empowerment that has improved the livelihoods of several Lagos families through gifts such as cars and houses.

He welcomed Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, who attended the opening and closing ceremonies respectively, noting that their participation underscored the national relevance of the conference.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting COWLSO’s vision of an inclusive Lagos where women can “dream freely, lead boldly, and thrive fully.”
