Wike’s faction takes control as PDP secretariat is unsealed

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. This transition follows the official reopening of the facility by the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday.
In a statement confirming the development, the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed announced that both the Wadata Plaza secretariat and The Legacy House in Maitama have been handed over to the current leadership. The handover, involving National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, was conducted in compliance with recent court orders.
The NWC praised the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism and commitment to the rule of law. The party further warned that it would not tolerate any actions capable of causing obstruction or a breach of peace at the secretariat moving forward, noting that security agencies have been alerted to take action against any violators.
“This positive development reassures members that the recent challenges confronting the Party have been effectively resolved,” the statement read. The leadership also expressed profound appreciation for the guidance of Nyesom Wike, describing his support as invaluable during the period of crisis.
The PDP has been embroiled in a prolonged internal struggle that escalated dramatically on November 18, 2025, when rival factions openly clashed at the national secretariat. The dispute pitted a group led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), reportedly backed by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, against the faction aligned with Wike.
The leadership tussle eventually moved to the judiciary, where parallel meetings and disputed congresses were scrutinized. In a landmark ruling delivered on March 9, 2026, the Court of Appeal resolved the dispute in favor of the Wike-aligned camp. The court nullified the Ibadan convention held on November 16, effectively invalidating the decisions made by the opposing bloc and solidifying the current leadership’s control over the party structure.
