Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the increasing violence across the country, describing the trend as a severe threat to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and stability.

In a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate spoke out against "continued acts of terrorism and brigandage." He emphasized that such violence against innocent citizens must not be allowed to define the Nigerian people.

“I condemn, in unequivocal terms, the continued acts of terrorism and brigandage that threaten the peace, unity, and stability of our nation," Atiku stated. "Such attacks on innocent citizens are a grave affront to our shared humanity."

The chieftain also acknowledged the efforts of the United States government and Pres. Donald Trump in the global fight against terrorism, noting that international partnerships are vital for addressing security threats.

Atiku extended his condolences to families who have suffered losses, stressing that the protection of lives and property is the foremost responsibility of any government. He called for renewed urgency and coordination to restore public confidence.

His remarks follow a fresh wave of deadly violence, including a coordinated assault on Thursday at a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State. The attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI resulted in the deaths of several soldiers, including Brig.-Gen. Oseni Braimah.

In response to the tragedy, Pres. Bola Tinubu expressed "deep sorrow," describing the fallen troops as "unforgettable heroes" whose sacrifices for the nation would not be forgotten.
