The factional National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday ratified the expulsion of three serving governors—Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
Also expelled were prominent party figures including former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman, Chief Bode George, and the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The decision followed last Saturday’s factional PDP convention in Ibadan, where Wike and several key allies were suspended over alleged anti-party activities and accused of attempts to “destabilise the party structure” ahead of broader reforms.
Tensions escalated earlier on Tuesday as both factions arrived at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, for parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings.
The arrival of rival supporters triggered confrontation at the gates, forcing security operatives to intervene. Heated arguments, pushing and shoving led to parts of the secretariat being briefly shut down before both camps eventually held separate meetings.
During its own session, the Wike-aligned NEC dissolved the PDP state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti States, directing that caretaker committees be installed immediately ahead of fresh congresses.
A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and read by the factional National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, stated:
“NEC received the report of the Acting National Chairman, Hon Abdulrahman Mohammed, detailing breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party activities, disobedience to court orders, and conduct bringing the party into disrepute.”
The faction also approved fresh disciplinary action against senior party members including Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, among others.
