The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi has declaring that the NDC will challenge those who attempt to rig the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday at an NDC town hall meeting in Nasarawa State, Obi emphasized his commitment to electoral integrity and institutional reform.
Addressing his supporters on the issue of election manipulation, he stated that perpetrators would face direct opposition and subsequent accountability under his watch.
“You didn’t ask about what we are going to do if people rig election next year. Let me assure you, number one, this coming election, we will rig those who rig it,” Obi said.
He further assured that if elected president, he would make election rigging impossible by strengthening political parties, reforming the electoral process, and enforcing stringent eligibility laws.
According to Obi, candidates seeking public office should clearly demonstrate foundational education, warning that certificate forgery or non-attendance would carry prison sentences.
He also extended the warning to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other electoral administrators, vowing that anyone complicit in rigging under his administration would be prosecuted and jailed.
Reiterating his vision for a nation anchored on the rule of law, Obi insisted that accountability would apply to everyone, from the highest political office holder to the ordinary citizen.
