The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was trafficked into the country under false pretences.

The rescue operation, carried out on 27 June 2025 in Abuja, followed actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

According to the police, Iddrisu was misled with a promise of assistance in securing travel documents for migration to Europe. Instead, upon his arrival in Nigeria, he was detained and coerced into participating in illegal internet activities linked to the QNET pyramid scheme, which poses as a legitimate e-commerce enterprise.

“The Nigeria Police Force, as part of its continued efforts to dismantle transnational crime networks and address violent crimes including kidnapping, successfully rescued Mr Sammed Iddrisu in coordination with officers from the Federal Capital Territory Command,” ACP Adejobi stated.

Investigations revealed that the victim’s father, Mr Nartey Louda, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 by a trafficker identified simply as Attah. The suspect had falsely assured the family that he could secure a French visa and related documentation for the victim.

Following these claims, Iddrisu travelled to Abuja on 25 June 2025 with the expectation of collecting the promised documents. Instead, he was held against his will and forced into fraudulent online schemes.

Authorities also discovered that other individuals, including another Ghanaian who managed to escape and return to Accra, had been targeted by the same syndicate. His report to law enforcement in Ghana triggered cross-border cooperation that led to the successful rescue.

The Nigeria Police said reintegration procedures for Iddrisu are already underway, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend all those involved in the trafficking operation.

“The INTERPOL NCB Abuja has commenced processes to ensure the suspects are located and prosecuted,” the statement added.

The Nigeria Police Force has advised members of the public to exercise caution and verify travel opportunities through legitimate diplomatic and government channels. It also encouraged citizens to promptly report suspicious activity through authorised security outlets.
