Tension is rising across Osun State as the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares to resume control of the 30 local government councils on Today, following a recent court judgement.
The Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Abiodun Idowu on Sunday, reiterated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains in charge of the local governments in the state.
Hon. Idowu said that ALGON has not received any official information regarding the recent Appeal Court judgment on local government.
He called on local government workers to resume back to work and shun partisan politics for the sake of Osun State’s development.
According him, “We have not received any information from anyone up till now. I want to reiterate that APC is still in charge of the local government in the state with duly elected chairmen. We are not threatened by any court judgment.
“Everybody should continue with their lawful business without any harassment.
“We have made several efforts to appeal to the local government officials to resume work, and we will continue to appeal to them to do so. They should refrain from turning themselves into politicians.
“As politicians, whether in APC or PDP we know each other. They should avoid partisan politics for the sake of Osun State’s development and its people.
However, the ruling, People Democratic party (PDP) in Osun has described all activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across 30 local government in the state as a medicine after death.
The party through Director of Media & Publicity, Oladele Bamiji said they will continue to toy path of the law and order.
He disclosed that no gain in power is worth shedding blood, saying that Governor Ademola Adeleke is a peace-loving leader who believes in the rule of law.
Bamiji said the law will tell APC to vacate local government for duly elected PDP chairmen and councilors take their rightful places and start serving the people of Osun state as expected .
He said, “There is no efficient preparation than to be on the side of the law.
“The people of the state are aware that our counterpart in the APC are only spoiling for war although on the basis of nothing, it is not as if we are afraid to go to any length with them, but going by our recent experience we don’t want to join them in fomenting trouble which definitely may result into another round of loss of lives and property.
“Like His Excellency has directed that, yes, getting the judgment from the court is one thing, then getting appropriate authorities concerned to enforce the government. So our legal team at work and they are taking good steps to make sure that nothing on towards happen, not just to the chairmen this time around, but to the people across the state. Like we witnessed in the other the other time when people became victim of the gunshots for no fault of theirs rather these citizens of the state living around this local government.
“So, it is a matter we have toy the path of law till this moment. So for us, that is what we will continue to exercise to continue to be reasonable as Mr. Governor has been who happens to be our leader. His not a blood talking leader is not somebody who derive joy in blood shed, and we can only toy his path as our leader. So for us will continue to toy path of the law and order.
“Being the party in government, we know the burden place on our soldiers, by the people and by the law, ensuring security of lives and properties, if anything happens at the end of the day, it is the governor and the party in government that will take bulk of the blame, it is not just to blame but for Humanity’s sake.
“If a single life is lost for instance no amount of power gain can bring the person back, and that is our focus.
“Our lawyers are at work and the governor by the grace of God will direct as appropriate in due course.
“Tomorrow is Monday I believe so strongly that steps are been taken to make sure that the coast is clear. This APC people too they are our brothers we just have to make them to be reason and reasonable, when you are cut up of law there is nothing you can do any more, there are been cut up by law now any other things they are doing is the medicine after death, for us the law will tell them to vacate whenever they think they are now so that proper people as pronouns by the law court will take their rightful places and start serving the people of Osun state as expected”
