UNIPORT disowns suspected pregnant arsonist linked to lover’s death

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has categorically denied social media claims suggesting that Cynthia Chukwundah, the woman accused of setting her boyfriend ablaze in the Choba community, is a student of the institution.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr Sam Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations at UNIPORT, described the reports as false, following a review of the university’s student records.

“After thoroughly checking our database, we can confirm that Cynthia Chukwundah is not a student of the University of Port Harcourt,” Kpenu stated.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, identified as 32-year-old Mr Sunny Amadi, and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to safeguarding its academic community.

According to the Rivers State Police Command, Chukwundah allegedly set her partner ablaze inside his one-room apartment before fleeing the scene. Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed that the victim, a native of Elibrada in Emohua Local Government Area, sustained extensive burns and was taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, where he later died.

The suspect, reportedly heavily pregnant with Amadi’s child, also suffered burn injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

Authorities have cautioned the public against the spread of unverified information, urging citizens to allow law enforcement to conclude their investigations.
