Police arrest suspect caught offloading stolen goods from truck in Lagos

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly stealing goods from a truck transporting consignments out of Lagos.

According to a statement posted on the squad’s official X handle (@rrsLagos767) on Tuesday, the suspect was apprehended at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday while offloading stolen items from a truck in the Costain area of Lagos.

The arrest followed ongoing operations to dismantle a criminal network known for targeting trucks moving goods out of Apapa and other parts of the city under the cover of darkness.

Preliminary findings revealed that the syndicate routinely intercepted trucks at night, transferring stolen goods into another vehicle without the knowledge of the original drivers.

Items recovered from the suspect included a Toyota Sienna vehicle filled with 10 cartons of Top Café 3-in-1 coffee, seven Littmann Classic II stethoscopes, doctors’ manuals, various medical textbooks, and two pouches containing theatre kits.

The police disclosed that an accomplice managed to escape upon spotting the approaching officers.

RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has directed that the arrested suspect be charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the gang.
