Two remanded in Ibadan over theft of N186m truckload of spaghetti.

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mapo, Ibadan, has directed the remand of two men, Ibrahim Olasinde, 43, and Sakiru Adeleke, 38, at a correctional facility over allegations of theft and conspiracy involving a truck carrying cartons of spaghetti valued at N186 million.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge and were ordered to remain in custody on Thursday until they meet their bail conditions. Magistrate Mrs O.O. Latunji granted bail set at N5 million each, with two credible sureties in the same amount.

The court stipulated that each surety must provide proof of ownership of landed property in Ibadan and submit a six-month bank statement. The matter was adjourned until 27 August 2025 for further hearing.

Prosecuting counsel Inspector Oluseye Akinola informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on 23 July in the Sanyo area of Ibadan, where the accused reportedly conspired to steal a Howo truck with registration number LAR 283 XB, estimated at N150 million.

The truck, which was transporting 2,400 cartons of Honeywell Spaghetti worth N36 million, had earlier been impounded by the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA) for a traffic violation and was parked at the agency’s holding bay when it was stolen.

Inspector Akinola further stated that one of the defendants, Olasinde, worked as a motor boy for the truck driver, whose name was not disclosed.

The charges, he noted, are in breach of Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
