The dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Gombe State House of Assembly has been further strengthened following the defection of two lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya formally received the new members at the Government House, marking a significant shift in the state’s legislative landscape.

The defecting legislators, Hon. Gabriel Galadima Fushison representing Kaltungo West Constituency and Hon. Malon Nimrod Yari representing Shongom Constituency, were led to the Governor’s office by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo. They were accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sadam Bello, and other principal officers of the Assembly.

Explaining the rationale behind their decision, the lawmakers cited Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s inclusive style of governance and his administration’s impressive performance record as the primary drivers for their move.

They noted that even while serving as opposition members, they were never sidelined by the executive arm.

According to them, their constituencies continued to benefit fully from government projects and the dividends of democracy, a testament to the Governor’s fairness and accessibility.

They concluded that joining hands with the Governor was the most appropriate way to reciprocate his equitable approach and advance the development agenda of Gombe State.

The Governor welcomed the lawmakers into the APC fold, describing their action as a distinct vote of confidence in his administration and its people-oriented policies.

He assured the new members of equal treatment, cooperation, and full integration within the party structure, emphasizing that the APC remains a vehicle for unity, progress, and service to the people.

The Governor also commended the leadership and members of the Gombe State House of Assembly for their sustained cooperation with the executive branch.

He highlighted that the cordial relationship between the two arms of government has been critical to maintaining the peace, stability, and development currently enjoyed across the state.

Looking ahead, Governor Yahaya expressed confidence that this unity of purpose would lead the APC to overwhelming success in the 2027 general elections, both within Gombe and nationally.

This latest development follows the defection of the Minority Whip of the House, Hon. Zubairu Ayala, from the PDP to the APC last year. With these recent additions, the APC now commands 23 out of the 24 seats in the Gombe State House of Assembly, effectively solidifying its political stronghold in the state.
