…unveils rainbow coalition for Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially declared that he will not support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term, stating that the political alliance that facilitated Fubara’s victory in 2023 will not be done again.

Wike made the declaration during a high-profile visit to Asari-Toru Local Government Area, where he unveiled a cross-party alliance termed a “Rainbow Coalition” comprising leaders from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to secure President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters, the immediate past governor of Rivers State emphasized that the political machinery in the state has shifted focus entirely to the President, signaling a complete break from the current state administration.

“APC and PDP Chairmen of Asari-Toru LGA are here. It is a Rainbow Coalition for President Tinubu’s reelection,” Wike announced, pointing to the unity between the two major parties in the area as a model for the upcoming election cycle.

In a direct reference to Governor Fubara, Wike stated unequivocally: “As for the one of Rivers State that we did in 2023, we are not doing again.”

The statement is widely seen as the final nail in the estranged relationship between Wike and the Rivers State Governor ending months of speculation about whether reconciliation was still possible. By distinguishing the “one of Rivers State” (Fubara) from the “Rainbow Coalition” for Tinubu, Wike effectively drew a battle line, indicating that while he will mobilize the state for the President, he will actively oppose the current Governor’s return.

The Asari-Toru visit is part of Wike’s ongoing political tour of Local Government Areas in the state, coming on the heels of similar visits to Akuku-Toru, Degema, Oyigbo, and Ogu-Bolo, where he has consistently preached total support for the Tinubu administration.

Political observers note that the Rainbow Coalition strategy uniting the opposition APC and the mainstream PDP structure loyal to Wike aims to isolate Governor Fubara politically while consolidating federal support for President Tinubu in the oil-rich state.
