Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists in different parts of Borno State, forcing the insurgents to retreat.

The military said the failed attacks occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 10, between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis with the intention of gaining access to Maiduguri metropolis.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops detected the advancing terrorists through established early warning mechanisms and engaged them from multiple directions with superior firepower.

He said the swift response frustrated all attempts by the insurgents to penetrate the targeted locations.

Goni added that troops also repelled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.

He disclosed that during the pursuit of fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), but no casualties were recorded among the troops.

“The situation remains stable,” he stated.

According to the military, the terrorists abandoned their mission and retreated in disarray after being overwhelmed by the troops’ tactical manoeuvres across all operational axes.

Troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to pursue the fleeing insurgents, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent further threats to nearby communities.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and protecting lives and property across the North-East.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
