Police arrest driver who absconded with employer’s vehicle in Abuja

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Adesola Ogunrotifa, in Abuja for allegedly stealing his employer’s vehicle after abandoning her at a church service in Akure.
The Police said the suspect, who was employed as a personal driver in July 2025, allegedly drove away with a Hyundai saloon car belonging to his employer, Mrs. Remilekun, on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred after the suspect conveyed his employer to Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service.
The statement explained that after dropping her at the church premises, the driver allegedly abandoned her and fled with the vehicle, reportedly heading towards Abuja.
Following a report made to the Police, detectives attached to B Division, Akure, commenced an investigation and tracked the suspect to Abuja through intelligence-led operations.
The Police said the suspect was arrested while the stolen Hyundai saloon car was recovered intact.
“The Command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation. Acting on credible intelligence and deploying strategic investigative techniques, detectives painstakingly tracked the suspect to Abuja, where he was successfully apprehended. The stolen Hyundai saloon vehicle was also recovered intact,” the statement said.
The Police disclosed that the suspect has been charged to court for prosecution.
Commending the investigating team, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, praised the officers for their professionalism and swift response, which led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the vehicle.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within or outside Ondo State.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring residents that genuine complaints would receive prompt and professional attention.
