BENIN City -Tragedy reportedly struck in the second East Circular axis of Benin City on 26th, July 2025 as the dead was identified as Monday osas odeh, his death occurred following a violent mob attack, linked to an alleged same-sex encounter that involved his brother bright Odeh who is among club of “27” of 2015 syndicate who operated in the second East Circular axis of Benin city Edo state that resulted the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police to declare the members of wanted.
It was gathered that the peaceful community was thrown into a Pandemonium that led to the violence that caused the death one Monday osas odeh, who was identified as the younger brother of bright Odeh who is still on the wanted list of the Nigerian police, according to the report, he was said to have conspire among others syndicate “called the club of 27”, to committee abominable acts.
The reports have that the vigilante/youths acting on the introduction of the traditional head of the deities, that the head of Odigie family pa. Odigie Odeh should be brought for the atonement of the sin committed by their son, who was alleged to have been involved in the sacrilege act of same-sex practice in 2015, a community
leader reportedly claimed that the youths/Vigilantes was simply carrying out the procedural order of the gods, but the young man that died on the process was preventing the traditional justice that degenerated into violence.
It’s alleged that the vigilante/youths assaulted the deceased while preventing them not taking their aged father away for the atonement.
Briefing journalists in Benin city on the development of the matter, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Joel Yamu, said that bright Odeh and his groups of syndicate had been declared wanted for gross violation of the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) 2014 Act, which he said criminalised same sex partner’s, gay relationship, bisexuality, homosexuality lesbianism and others amorous conduct which carrys 14 year’s jailed terms or both.
He emphasized that the alleged unlawful act of violence in the second East Circular axis of Benin city is all called, he said what reportedly to have culminated in the death of Monday Osas Odeh during a mob attack is the refusal of bright Odeh and chourts to make themselves available for prosecution’s.
The PPRO stated that bright Odeh is one of the principal suspects they are on the list of police there since been declared wanted since 2015.
He warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that the Command would no longer tolerate jungle justice or mob actions.
The police image maker appealed to residents and members of the public to please volunteer useful information that will help with ongoing investigations, assuring that any information on the whereabouts of bright Odeh and co – travellers, would be treated with strict confidentiality.
