The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to supporting the judiciary to improve productivity, reduce delays, and uphold its independence.
Wike made the remarks at the Special Court session marking the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
He said well-equipped court facilities, chambers, and support infrastructure are essential for professional, safe, and efficient judicial work.
The Minister disclosed that the FCT Administration has made budgetary provisions to build additional residential houses for FCT High Court judges to address housing shortages.
Wike also revealed that the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court land has been formally handed over, and full perimeter fencing has commenced to enhance security.
“This intervention gives the Supreme Court the confidence it deserves and supports the broader judiciary,” he said.
The Minister listed several ongoing projects, including the construction of secure residential quarters for heads of courts, a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi District, and staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School.
He added that plans are also underway for the design and construction of the Court of Appeal Abuja division complex, as well as residences for justices of the National Industrial Court and Federal High Court Abuja divisions.
“These projects aim to allow judges to focus entirely on delivering justice efficiently,” Wike said.
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the FCTA will push for the timely completion of these projects to ensure prompt utilisation.
Olayinka added that collaboration with FCT-based judiciaries will continue to digitise court proceedings and registries, reduce manual processes, and accelerate justice delivery.
Wike added that justice must never be compromised, stressing it is the foundation of democracy and public trust.
He expressed confidence that the 2025/2026 Legal Year would bring unprecedented progress, wisdom, and efficiency to the Court of Appeal.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received in audience Governor of Sokoto Ahmad Aliyu, Governor of Ondo Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Jigawa Umar Namadi, Governor of Kebbi Dr Nasir Idris, Governor of Kogi Ahmed Usman Ododo and Governor of Edo Monday Okpebholo at the State House.
