Tinubu urges youth participation in agriculture, calls for nutrition awareness

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian youth to take active roles in agriculture, stressing the importance of nutrition awareness as part of the country’s drive towards food security and economic prosperity.
Speaking at the 2025 Arla-Dano Open Day held at Arla Farms in Damau, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria’s dairy and livestock sector presents enormous opportunities for young people to build sustainable careers and contribute to national development.
He Said: “Let us renew our commitment to investing in our dairy sector, supporting our farmers, and innovating for a sustainable future.
“Behind every glass of milk is a network of hardworking farmers, dedicated professionals, and robust systems that deserve our respect and support.”
Highlighting Nigeria’s current dairy production challenges, he noted that the nation produces only about 0.7 million litres of milk annually, far below the nutritional requirements of its population.
Tinubu also cited the average yield of indigenous cows, which remains significantly lower than global standards.
The President commended initiatives such as the Arla Farm, the Damau Household Milk Farm, and other dairy development projects, which are aimed at increasing local production, creating jobs, and providing technical support for farmers.
He urged the youth to take advantage of these opportunities and actively participate in transforming Nigeria’s food systems.
Tinubu also emphasised the importance of nutrition education, encouraging citizens, particularly the youth, to make informed choices that support health and productivity.
“This administration remains resolute in its commitment to food security, job creation, and economic diversification. We will continue to provide an enabling environment for investors and young entrepreneurs to thrive,” he added.
