Tinubu seeks accelerated passage of Police Trust Fund bill

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a bill to the House of Representatives seeking to repeal and re-enact the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Act.

The President stated that the proposal is designed to strengthen fund management, improve police training, and equip the Nigeria Police Force with modern operational tools.

The President noted that the proposed reform will enhance operational efficiency, accountability, and sustainability, ensuring the force is better aligned with current security demands.

He urged lawmakers to grant the bill accelerated consideration, emphasizing the urgent need to boost welfare, professional training, and capacity development within the police.

By seeking a complete re-enactment of the Act, the administration aims to create a more robust financial framework that addresses long-standing gaps in police funding.

The reform is expected to provide a more sustainable approach to internal security by prioritizing the modernization of the force and the well-being of its personnel.
