Tinubu appoints Adelabu, Salako to head NECO, NBTE boards

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO) and Professor Babatunde Salako as the Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

These appointments announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday are part of a broader reshuffle aimed at strengthening leadership within the Federal Ministry of Education.

Professor Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, brings significant administrative experience to NECO, having previously chaired the NBTE.

While she takes over the board leadership, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi has been retained as the Council’s Registrar. Similarly, the new NBTE Chairman, Professor Salako, is a distinguished academic who recently concluded an eight-year tenure as the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research. Alongside his appointment, Professor Idris M. Bugaje was reappointed as the NBTE Executive Secretary for a final five-year term.

The President also appointed Dr. Bongfa Binfa as the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State.

Dr. Binfa, a specialist in Mechanical Engineering and former Deputy Rector at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u for a single five-year term. This transition follows the expiration of the previous rector’s tenure in March 2026.

In a move to ensure administrative continuity, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi was reappointed as the Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria.

Since her initial appointment in 2021, Anunobi has championed the digitization of the national repository and the virtual library system.

The Presidency noted that her second five-year term is intended to oversee the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja and the implementation of the agency’s 2025–2030 strategic plan.

These appointments collectively reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing efficiency across Nigeria’s educational institutions.
