President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with his certificate confirming him as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, days after the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed the vice president for another term on the party’s ticket.
The presentation was disclosed in a video shared on Thursday by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada.
The footage captured Shettima arriving at the venue, where he exchanged brief pleasantries with President Tinubu before receiving the certificate confirming his nomination as the APC’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Sharing the video, Dada wrote, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presents certificate to Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in 2027 election.”
He also dismissed recent speculation over Shettima’s position in the administration after a social media user asked, “Didn’t some people say Shettima has been relegated?”
Responding to the comment, Dada said, “At no point was the Vice President’s place in this administration under any doubt. People just create scenarios in their head and start cooking.”
The development follows the APC’s formal confirmation of Shettima as President Tinubu’s running mate on July 10, bringing to an end months of speculation over whether the President would retain the vice president on the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The ruling party also expressed confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, stating that it is well-positioned to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election. It subsequently received the party’s nomination forms for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the stipulated deadline.
