The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has received 1,465 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bodinga East who defected to its fold.

The mass defection was announced on Wednesday in a statement released by the ADC coalition mobilization wing.

According to the party, a significant portion of the movement took place in Kwacciya Lalle Ward, within the Bodinga Local Government Area, where 136 registered APC members officially switched allegiance.

The defectors were led by Alhaji Nasiru Abdullahi Sakasamu, the Sarkin Yakin Bodinga East.

His exit from the ruling party is seen as a major blow to the APC’s grassroots influence in the zone.

Other key figures who dumped the APC alongside Sakasamu include Abu Kaura Zangalawa, the APC Youth Leader in Kwacciya Lalle Ward, and Bala Ba’ayima, a highly respected elder within the local APC structure.

The new members were formally received at a reception held at the residence of Hon. Ibrahim Naira Danchadi, the ADC candidate for the Bodinga East State Constituency.

During the reception, the defectors declared their full support for all ADC candidates, pledging to work tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.

Sakasamu stated that their decision to join the ADC was driven by growing public confidence in the party’s vision and its commitment to offering a credible alternative for the people of Sokoto.

“The movement is gaining strength because it is rooted in the aspirations of ordinary citizens who want security, economic opportunities, justice, and accountable government,” the statement noted.

Welcoming the new members, the ADC stated that the experience, grassroots influence, and commitment of the defectors would significantly strengthen the party’s structure in Bodinga East and bolster its wider campaign across Sokoto State.
