President Bola Tinubu has described the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as a steadfast voice for justice.
The President in a statement praised the elder statesman’s lifelong commitment to justice, education, and democratic values during a ceremony held on Monday in Akure to mark Fasoranti’s centenary birthday.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu remarked that the centenarian has devoted the majority of his life to defending the underrepresented and speaking out against oppression.
The President noted that Fasoranti consistently rejected the convenient silence of the privileged, instead embracing a life of advocacy, sacrifice, and principled leadership.
He highlighted that in an era where some leaders prioritize personal interests over public duty, Fasoranti remains a rare symbol of integrity and compassion, standing as a bulwark for the vulnerable.
The President also commended Fasoranti’s enduring belief in the power of education.
Tecalling his early career as a teacher, Tinubu described him as a lifelong educator whose influence now transcends the walls of a classroom to serve as the conscience of the nation.
He further praised the Afenifere leader for his courage in defending democracy during periods when dissent carried significant personal risk, noting that Fasoranti always advocated for peace founded on fairness.
Responding through his younger sister, Rachel Tubosun Falae, Pa Fasoranti expressed his gratitude to the President, the governors, and the guests in attendance.
Reflecting on a century of life spanning colonial rule, independence, and various political eras, he stated that his journey has been sustained by the fear of God, hard work, and service to others.
He concluded by urging younger Nigerians to emulate leaders who govern with integrity and large hearts, leaving office with clean hands and a legacy of sacrifice.
