Rivers rainbow coalition to align strategically for 2027 elections — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the emerging rainbow coalition in Rivers State will adopt a calculated approach ahead of the 2027 general elections by aligning with regions where it maintains significant political influence.

Speaking on Monday during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the coalition would evaluate political realities across the state before making definitive electoral decisions.

He noted that the essence of the coalition is to compare notes and vote according to where their collective strength lies.

The former Rivers State Governor also addressed rumors regarding his involvement in the internal affairs of other parties.

Wike distanced himself from the ongoing screening of aspirants by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, clarifying that as he is not a member of the APC, he has no reason to comment on their internal processes or results.

He dismissed further speculation linking him to external party matters, stating that he focuses only on issues that concern him directly and is neither a prophet nor a native doctor capable of predicting or influencing outside interests.

Turning his attention to the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of major infrastructure projects scheduled for inauguration during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Wike confirmed that contractors have provided assurances that all outstanding works, including the installation of streetlights on several key roads, will be completed by the end of May.

He highlighted the Dutse-Alhaji-to-M5 road project being executed by Lubrix and a recently completed road by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCCC) as prime examples of the administration’s commitment to quality.

Wike also lauded the progress of a significant bridge project designed to redirect traffic toward Kubwa, describing the quality of work as excellent.

Regarding public concerns over tax enforcement, the Minister addressed reports of alleged harassment by officials from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

While he acknowledged the need for civilized tax collection methods, he noted that tax compliance remains a challenge among residents who often seek excuses to avoid payment.

However, he clarified that the FCT Administration has yet to receive any formal complaints regarding the conduct of the AMAC officials.
