Three luxury buses belonging to Silver Luxury Transport Company were destroyed in an early morning explosion at the Mando Motor Park in Kaduna.
The affected vehicles were powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a development that has raised fresh concerns regarding the safety and management of the technology.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. while the buses were parked in preparation for scheduled interstate trips.
A manager from a logistics company operating within the park, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the explosion took place while the vehicles were stationary.
He noted that the buses were newly acquired and expressed relief that no one was on board at the time, as they were waiting to begin passenger boarding later that morning.
However, he questioned the country’s readiness for CNG technology, suggesting that it may not yet be fully understood or properly managed.
The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident, clarifying that the explosion was a mechanical failure involving a gas-powered vehicle rather than a bomb blast.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the command revealed that preliminary findings indicate one of the CNG-powered buses exploded due to the overfilling of its gas tank.
While no casualties were recorded, the police confirmed that the affected vehicles have been evacuated and the area has been secured. A full investigation has been ordered to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish measures to prevent a recurrence.
