The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the tragic death of a dispatch rider following a collision with a diesel tanker on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.

The incident occurred Wednesday under the Cele Bridge corridor when a fully loaded HOWO diesel tanker violently rammed into the motorcycle.

According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the rider was trapped underneath the heavy-duty vehicle and died instantly.

While LASTMA operatives secured the crash site to prevent secondary accidents on the busy highway, the tanker driver reportedly fled the scene.

The vehicle has since been impounded, and the case has been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Ijesha Division, for further investigation.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and called for a thorough police investigation to ensure accountability.

This fatality follows another recent collision on the same stretch of road that claimed two lives, heightening public concern over the safety of commercial riders operating alongside heavy-duty vehicles in the metropolis.
