A 50-year-old tailor, Kehinde Obateru, has been arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly threatening the lives of a woman, Oyinbo Omoge, and her son, Destiny.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of threat to life and breach of peace. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, the incident occurred on July 16 at Hospital Road, Okitipupa. He told the court that the defendant and the complainant had a heated argument over an undisclosed issue during which Obateru allegedly hurled insults and described the complainant’s five-year-old son as a “bastard.”
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant threatened to kill both the complainant and her child if they did not steer clear of her. He said the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
Magistrate Mayowa Olanipekun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety, he ruled, must provide evidence of two years tax clearance issued by the state government.
The case was adjourned until September 3 for further hearing.
