Suspected burglar arraigned for alleged theft of window blinds, bedsheets in Ibadan

The Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan has arraigned a man, Mohammed Assan, for allegedly stealing household items valued at N232,500.
Assan appeared before the court on Tuesday on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful entry, and theft. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Presiding over the matter, Court President Mrs S.M. Akintayo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in the same amount. She instructed that one of the sureties must be a recognised community leader, and both must submit proof of tax payments to the Oyo State Government. The case was adjourned to 20 August for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Inspector Ayodeji Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant, alongside accomplices still at large, allegedly broke into the home of one Ajewole Alebiosu at AL-HAQ House, Asi-Bodija, Ibadan, on 20 May.
According to Ayeni, the stolen items included a generating set, a plasma television, a home-theatre system, gas cylinders (three and seven kilograms), an 18-inch mattress, a standing fan, window blinds, and bedsheets. He stated that the total value of the items stood at N232,500.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences are in breach of Sections 516, 412, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
