The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22 for the hearing of appeals arising from the lingering leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The case, brought by a faction led by former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, challenges the Court of Appeal’s March 9 judgment which upheld earlier Federal High Court orders restraining the party from holding its planned national convention.

A five-member panel headed by Justice Mohammed Garba granted an accelerated hearing and shortened filing timelines, directing respondents to file within five days, while appellants have two days to reply.

The dispute traces back to Federal High Court rulings in Abuja, delivered by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu, following suits by aggrieved members including ex-Jigawa Governor, Sule Lamido.

At Tuesday’s proceedings, political heavyweights including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, were present in court as the matter drew significant attention.

The apex court’s decision is expected to shape the PDP’s internal leadership direction in the coming weeks.
