A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned opposition leaders against actions and comments that may destabilise the political climate as the 2027 general elections approach.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, the former lawmaker described the recent conduct of several opposition figures as unnecessarily provocative, warning that their rhetoric could ignite unrest across the country.
Oyintiloye, who served as a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, expressed concern over rising political tension despite the next elections being nearly two years away.
Citing a statement allegedly made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, which called for violent protests to unseat the current administration, Oyintiloye condemned the remarks as unpatriotic and reckless.
He argued that Nigeria, at this time, needs consolidation of democratic gains and not agitation that could endanger national unity.
“While political alignments and coalition-building are natural in any democracy, using such platforms to incite the public against the government must not be condoned,” he stated.
He further alleged that many of those forming coalitions are primarily driven by a hunger for power, regardless of the damage their ambitions may inflict on the country.
“We have no other country but Nigeria. It is unwise to tear it apart with divisive rhetoric and irresponsible actions born out of desperation for power,” Oyintiloye said.
He called for a united front in supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing the need for patriotic leadership that would prioritise peace, prosperity, and national stability over political gamesmanship.
“The focus now should be on working together to build a better future, create wealth, and promote peace and development,” he concluded.
