Stakeholder-engagement key to FRSC’s success — Ag. Corps Marshal

Acting Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has identified stakeholder-engagement as a key to successful operations of the corps across the country, especially during the yuletide.

Biu said this during end of the year strategy session with the corps’ management team on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that it was essential for the Commanding Officers to pay close attention to traffic control and management by engaging all stakeholders during special operations toward the end of the year.

He also said that attention must be paid to prompt rescue and post-crash care, adding that where provided, traffic camps and roadside clinics must be made to perform optimally.

“During this period, engage with sister agencies, State Governments, Special Marshals and other stakeholders at various levels for effective collaboration and successful operation, “ he said.

Biu cautioned the corps on scanning the operating environment, adding that they must be concerned with the safety of the patrol teams and individuals.

The Acting Corps Marshal, who noted that insecurity must be of serious concern to all, urged FRSC personnel to factor in the security challenge in planning their operations.

He said that the ongoing distribution of operational vehicles would continue as the corps received more deliveries of procured vehicles.

Biu further stated that the corps had done an appraisal of the vehicle disposition as well as the need analysis of the various commands.

“We had begun distribution of operational vehicles and ambulances as proposed. Other considerations will be made as more patrol, ambulance, recovery and staff vehicles are received.

“We are also not unmindful of the effect of inflation on the lean allocation to the commands,” he said.

The FRSC boss charged the personnel to be focused and intelligence-driven, adding that during special patrol operations, attention should be paid to addressing critical risk factors and enforcement of regulations.

He said that speed violation, drunk-driving, overloading, and route violations must be accorded priority in their enforcement activities.

Earlier, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, said that government’s efforts at promoting intermodal transportation in Nigeria had also resulted in construction of roads by the Federal Government.

This, he said included rehabilitation of rail tracks, dredging of waterways as well as upgrading of most of the airports across the country.

Mustapha, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of General Services, Mr Maurice Mbaeri, called on all stakeholders in the transportation sector to make prudent use of the facilities and protect critical infrastructure.

“For sustainable management, government is also working through the Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission to explore public-private management.

“To support your operations, it is noteworthy to highlight that despite global economic challenges, the Federal Government had, at various times, approved procurement of operational vehicles and other equipment for the corps.

“Government had also, in recent time, approved recruitment of more personnel to the corps to boost your workforce as well as the approvals granted the corps to build office accommodations in various parts of Nigeria,” he said.

The theme of the last quarter of 2022 strategy session was “Operational Excellence and Sustainable Customer Service.”
