…Minister fumes, accuses military officer of using force over land ownership
A dramatic scene unfolded in Abuja on Monday when soldiers reportedly barred the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and senior FCTA officials from entering a disputed parcel of land.
In a viral video from the incident, an angry Wike could be heard condemning what he described as “impunity” and abuse of authority, after security personnel prevented his convoy from gaining access to the property.
Wike was heard saying in frustration,“We cannot continue to act with impunity, we cannot continue this way in the country.
“How can that man, at his level, not reach out and say, ‘Look, this is what I have,’ and instead send soldiers?”
The disputed land is reportedly linked to a serving Rear Admiral, sparking a tense standoff between the Minister’s team and military personnel on site.
The incident has since raised concerns over the use of military force in civil land matters, particularly within the capital territory, where Wike has repeatedly vowed to restore order and reclaim encroached government lands.
