…VP to represent Nigeria at global coffee value chain roundtable

…Nigeria’s food security drive tops bilateral talks

Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Sunday to take part in the second United Nations Food Systems Summit, which will run from 27 to 29 July.

His aircraft landed at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport at about 4:26 p.m. local time, where he was received by senior Ethiopian and Nigerian diplomatic officials.

Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Temesgen Tiruneh, Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires to Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu, and other senior diplomats, including Deputy Defence Attaché Wing Commander Gabriel Batubo, were on hand to welcome him.

The summit builds on the work of the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and the 2023 stocktaking meeting (UNFSS+2), with a focus on speeding up the transformation of global food systems, centring on resilience, inclusivity and sustainability.

According to the Nigerian Embassy in Ethiopia, Vice-President Shettima will join a high-level panel on coffee value chain transformation and attend technical sessions showcasing practical innovations in food systems.

“Shettima will also hold bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s domestic food security priorities and building partnerships for agricultural transformation,” the embassy stated.

Shortly after his arrival, he received a briefing from Technical Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Marion Moon, and the Executive Secretary of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU).

The summit seeks to share successful national reforms and strengthen connections between Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in fragile and conflict-affected areas where food insecurity continues to pose a serious challenge.
