Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has dismissed rumours that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting he remains a committed member of the opposition party.
In a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr. Midat Joseph, the lawmaker described the speculation as “needless distractions” from his legislative mandate.
“Senator Katung was elected on the platform of the PDP and remains dedicated to effective representation, legislative excellence, and attracting developmental projects to Kaduna South Senatorial District,” the statement read.
Katung stressed that the political space may be dynamic, but any decision of such significance would be communicated directly and transparently by him, not through “clandestine speculation.”
He urged his constituents, the media, and the general public to disregard the defection claims, reaffirming that he is fully focused on delivering on the mandate given to him by the people of Kaduna South.
The rebuttal comes amid heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections, but Katung’s firm dismissal of the rumours underscores his loyalty to the PDP.
