The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), representing the Southwest geopolitical zone.

The confirmation of Chief Olorunnimbe, alongside several other new commissioners, marks a significant step in reconstituting the leadership of the nation’s telecommunications regulatory body.

In addition to the Chairman, the Senate also confirmed Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa (Southwest), Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (Southeast), Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (South-South), Christopher Sandy Okorie (South-South) and
Maryam Bayi (Northeast) as members of the NCC Board.

These appointments are expected to bring diverse regional experience and expertise to the NCC, guiding the Commission’s policies on digital economy growth, spectrum management, and consumer protection.

Idris Olorunnimbe is a highly experienced public servant and seasoned administrator from the Southwest region. He is widely recognized for his deep knowledge of policy formulation and corporate governance. His extensive background in strategic management and his understanding of regulatory frameworks position him to lead the NCC Board in steering Nigeria’s crucial telecommunications sector toward greater efficiency and growth.
