SDP expels National Chair, other top officials

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially expelled its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, alongside several senior officials, including the National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, over allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.
The announcement came on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Abuja, following a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which adopted the recommendations of its Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper reviewing the allegations against the affected officials.
National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, told journalists at the party’s National Secretariat that the expulsion followed months of thorough investigation and due process.
He explained that the NWC had initially suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and the National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, on June 24, 2025, after preliminary findings suggested misconduct, financial impropriety, and gross abuse of office.
“To ensure impartiality, an independent Disciplinary Committee was established on July 4, 2025. The committee conducted a two-week investigation and submitted its report on July 18, 2025. The NWC later reviewed and adopted the White Paper on August 15, paving the way for today’s decisive action,” Aiyenigba said.
Other officials affected include Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu. They were accused of disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s National Secretariat on July 28, 2025.
Aiyenigba added that the expelled members were allegedly found in possession of sensitive documents and valuables removed from the Secretariat and are currently facing criminal prosecution.
The party described the disciplinary measures as essential to restore integrity, discipline, and internal order, with other administrative recommendations from the White Paper to be implemented to prevent future breaches.
“The expulsions take immediate effect,” Aiyenigba confirmed, noting that the decision received unanimous approval from all members of the NWC.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and constitutional governance, emphasizing that the action marks a firm step toward ensuring proper administration within the SDP.
The disciplinary proceedings follow the party’s June 24, 2025 suspension of Gabam and other officials over alleged financial misconduct, embezzlement, and diversion of party funds, culminating in today’s expulsion.
