SAPZ project: Kogi Gov’t accelerates move toward implementation phase

The Kogi State Governance has initiated moves to activate the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) project from conceptual planning to active execution.

This follows a recent cooperation agreement with China’s Hezheng Holdings Group.

The government has signaled that the project is set to take off very soon, marking a transition toward full mobilization and the establishment of coordination offices across China, Kogi State, and Abuja to oversee the groundbreaking phase.

The Governor of Kogi State, represented by a high-powered delegation led by the State Auditor General and Project Investment Adviser, Alhaji Yakubu Okala, emphasized the administration’s resolute willingness to execute this vision.

The partnership is specifically designed to transform the state into a leading agricultural and industrial hub by integrating modern science and technology into a dedicated industrial park.

This engagement underscores a deliberate strategy to move beyond administrative frameworks and deliver tangible agro-industrial infrastructure.

According to the state government, technical and commercial workstreams will be advanced in the coming months to ensure the project remains on a fast track.

The implementation roadmap focuses on establishing the Ajaokuta Agro-Industrial Hub alongside transformation centers in Anyigba, Alape, and Osara.

By integrating existing farmer clusters with an additional 150,000 hectares of farmland per zone, the government aims to create a bankable ecosystem ready for large-scale production and private sector investment.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo in a statement further noted that the state remains committed to building an investment-ready environment that prioritizes food security and job creation.

He stated that the government’s readiness to execute is further demonstrated by its focus on critical support systems, including cold chain logistics, sustainable power solutions, and agro-export infrastructure.
