Sanwo-Olu urges Nigerians to uphold patriotism, values

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged Nigerians to uphold patriotism, resilience and determination to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Sanwo-Olu made the call in a message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.

Nigeria gained political independence  from Britain on Oct. 1, 1960.

Sanwo-Olu,  the Chairman of South-West Governors’ Forum, said the country’s progress would depend on the collective efforts of its citizens.

He urged the citizens to respond to national challenges with renewed faith, responsible citizenship and unity.

He said the independence anniversary should serve not only as a reminder of the nation’s hard-earned freedom but also as a call for renewed commitment to national development.

Sanwo-Olu commended Nigeria’s founding fathers, patriots and past and present public office holders for contributions to sustaining the country’s unity.

The governor urged Nigerians  to believe in the country’s potential and work collectively toward achieving the aspirations of its founding fathers.

“As citizens, we must believe in our country and in our collective capacity to build the nation we all desire.

“We must not depart from the dream of the founding fathers who fought very hard for us to become a sovereign nation.

“Our diversity should be a source of strength and not division,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism through their daily actions, urging  respect for rights of others, promotion of social cohesion and meaningful contributions to national development.

He also called on the citizens to cooperate with leaders and embrace unity in addressing the country’s challenges.

“As we celebrate the 66th Independence anniversary, let us recommit ourselves to doing what is right, work with our leaders for a better country.

“Let us remember that the strength of Nigeria lies in its diversity.  I believe strongly that the future of Nigeria will be shaped by the choices we make together,” he said.
