Sanwo-Olu mourns veteran actor Ogogo

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. He was buried today in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

Hassan was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades.

Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, described the actor’s death as painful and a significant loss to Nigeria’s creative industry.

The governor said Hassan used his talent to entertain, inspire and positively influence society through his numerous cinematic performances.

He described the late actor as a bundle of talent whose performances touched the lives of millions of Nigerians, adding that his contributions to the entertainment industry would remain indelible.

Sanwo-Olu commiserated with Hassan’s immediate family, children, friends, colleagues, associates and fans, urging them to find solace in the actor’s legacy and the impact he made during his lifetime.

The governor noted that Ogogo’s performances went beyond entertainment, as the actor used his craft to mirror society and influence generations of film lovers.

He said the late actor would be greatly missed by his family, colleagues and admirers, while praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those mourning his death.

Hassan’s death has continued to generate tributes from political leaders, colleagues and fans across the country, with burial rites for the veteran actor taking place in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
