Sanwo-Olu hails IGP Disu at state banquet

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday night, hosted a state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praising his rise through the ranks as a testament to discipline, service, and the enduring values of Lagos.

Taking to social media handles following the event, Sanwo-Olu described Disu’s journey as both inspiring and symbolic of the state’s capacity to nurture leaders committed to national development.

“Something is inspiring about seeing one of ours rise through the ranks with discipline and a clear commitment to service,” the governor said.

He recalled the IGP’s deep roots in Lagos, noting that his formative years in the state played a defining role in shaping his character and career.

“Long before the world knew him as IGP, Lagos knew him. The streets of this city shaped him. The lecture halls of the Lagos State University refined him, and the communities of Lagos Island where he was born taught him early lessons about life, responsibility, and service,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The governor highlighted Disu’s track record, particularly his tenure with the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he was credited with strengthening security architecture and improving public trust.

“From his time leading the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he strengthened security and built public confidence, to his national assignments, he has consistently shown what dedication and excellence look like,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu added that the police chief’s career trajectory underscores the virtues of hard work, integrity, and commitment to public service.

“His journey reminds us that greatness comes from hard work, integrity, and service. Lagos does not just raise dreamers. We raise people who lead and build,” he added.

Describing the banquet as a celebration of both service and identity, the governor expressed pride in Disu’s achievements and his continued representation of Lagos values at the national level.

“Tonight was a celebration of service and the Lagos spirit. We are proud. Proud that the values he carries to the Force Headquarters were shaped here and proud that he continues to represent us with discipline and honour,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Disu was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in February 2026, succeeding former IGP Kayode Egbetokun amid a broader leadership reshuffle in the Nigeria Police Force.
