Sanwo-Olu commissions electrification projects in Badagry

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned a series of vital electrification projects aimed at delivering power to residents of the Badagry border axis.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Governor formally inaugurated three HC Tower Crossings, newly rehabilitated 33KV distribution lines stretching along the Gaji-Seme and Owode-Apa corridors, and the successful integration of fifty-one transformer substations.

This massive intervention serves as a direct response to the decade-long electricity challenges faced by the region, effectively reconnecting thousands of households and businesses to the national grid.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this infrastructure goes beyond simple power cables, representing a strategic effort to unlock the dormant economic potential of one of Nigeria’s most critical gateways.

By restoring stable power to the border corridor connecting Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, the administration expects a surge in cross-border trade, extended business hours for local traders, and enhanced productivity for small-scale manufacturers.

The Governor noted that the project is a key deliverable of the THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly following the recent inauguration of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which empowers the state to regulate and expand its own electricity supply more effectively.

During the ceremony, government officials including the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Energy, Hon. Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, lauded the project as a testament to visionary leadership.

They noted that the improved power supply would not only stimulate commerce but also significantly enhance local security and the functionality of healthcare and educational facilities.

As the state positions itself as a sovereign energy regulator, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the residents of Gbaji, Seme, Owode, and Apa to take collective ownership of these assets, protecting them from vandalism to ensure the infrastructure continues to drive community well-being for generations to come.
