Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the construction of the Durum Kuruntumawa Road in Makarfi Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive and equitable development across the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, the Governor stated that the project represented a significant step toward addressing long-standing infrastructural deficits in rural communities.

“Makarfi is among the 12 local government areas in Kaduna State that have not benefitted from a completed road project in the past 10 years.

“I am therefore very happy to be here to break that unfortunate record,” he said.

Sani emphasised that Kaduna State comprised 23 local government areas, and development efforts must be spread accordingly.

“Kaduna is not just the urban city. People in rural areas are also part of this state.

“We do not discriminate because the state’s resources belong to all of us,” he said.

Sani described the Durum Kuruntumawa road as more than a construction project, but a symbol of equity and progress for rural dwellers.

“This road is a promise fulfilled a lifeline for farmers, traders, students, and families.

“It is central to our broader agenda of ensuring balanced development across all LGAs,” he said.

Highlighting the economic significance of the area, the governor stated that Makarfi was one of the state’s major agricultural hubs, producing crops such as maize, sugarcane, tomatoes, and soybeans.

He disclosed that since assuming office in May 2023, his administration had initiated 85 road projects covering 785 kilometres across the state, with 44 already completed.

According to him, several others are at advanced stages of completion, while 15 additional road contracts had been awarded as part of the second phase of infrastructure development.

Sani called on community leaders and the residents to take ownership of public infrastructure to ensure their longevity.

“This groundbreaking is not just a ceremony it is a symbol of progress and our shared aspiration for a better tomorrow.

“When communities steward their infrastructure, the benefits are long-lasting,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to prioritise rural development and assured that no community would be left behind.
