Lagos State government has launched an initiative to strengthen public safety and workplace protection during the 2025 Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Conference, held on today, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.

In his welcome address, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations,Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde emphasised the critical role of occupational safety as a catalyst for nation-building.

“This conference provides a key platform for stakeholders committed to building a safer, healthier, and more resilient Lagos,” he said.

Themed “Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as a Catalyst for Nation Building,” the conference brought together policymakers, safety professionals, industry leaders, and community stakeholders to discuss strategies for safer workplaces and safer communities.

As a megacity of over 20 million residents, Lagos faces unique challenges associated with commerce, tourism, culture, and innovation, Mr. Oyerinde noted, making occupational and public safety a top government priority.

He highlighted the achievements of the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations and its agencies,LASEMA, LSFRS, LNSA, the Lagos State Command & Control Centre, and the Lagos State Safety Commission including improved emergency response times, strengthened disaster preparedness, expanded fire service capacity, enhanced grassroots security, and intensified workplace safety inspections.

The conference also recognised the vital contributions of private sector partners, NGOs, faith-based organizations, and international stakeholders in supporting technical interventions, infrastructure investments, and community-based safety programs.
