In what looks like a twist of event, a political heavyweight in Rivers State, Dr.Sokonte Davies, a governorship a spirant in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who recently resigned from the party has formally returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his former Party.

Dr. Davies, an ally of former governor of Rivers State and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed this in a statement he personally signed in Port Harcourt.

He said his decision was informed by deep reflections, patriotic convictions and a clear eyed assessment of where he could best serve the people and contribute to the re- elect bid of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to ensure the stability of the nation.

He pointed out that APC is the most credible platform for progressive governance,  national unity and grassroots development, which according to him was his main reason for returning to the party, describing it as homecoming.

Davies pledged loyalty and commitment to the party, promising to uphold  its constitution, respect its leadership and work with all stakeholders to strengthen the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels.

He further promised to bring to bear his wealth of experience, network and goodwill to support the party’s vision, pointing out that as a pioneer member of APC, he believed and still believes in its founding ideals, which include democracy, social justice, true federalism, inclusive growth, and respect for the rule of law, among others.

The former federal lawmaker thanked the leadership of the NDC at the national level for giving him the opportunity to serve, noting that his membership in the party was before now marked with service and commitment, stressing that he bears no grudges against anybody, bearing in mind that “politics is a marketplace of ideas, where people can disagree without being disagreeable.”

Davies expressed appreciation to political leaders in Rivers State, especially the  Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike for the warm reception, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Party, Victor Giadom for facilitating his return to the fold.
