Rivers Lawmakers receives three committee reports, defers debate

The Rivers State House of Assembly has received three reports from the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions but deferred debate on the documents to another legislative day.

The reports were presented during the Assembly’s 3rd Legislative Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Tenth Assembly on Tuesday, as lawmakers continued their legislative oversight functions with a focus on addressing issues affecting their constituents.

The Special Assistant on Media, the Speaker, Martins Wachukwu and made available to newsmen on Tuesdays.

Presenting the report on the oil spillage along the 24-inch Ogala–Bonny Pipeline involving the activities of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Enemi George, informed the House that the intervention of the committee had resulted in a successful and peaceful resolution of the matter.

However, Hon. George stated that his Committee was able to broker peace on the Petition of Mr. Bright and 15 Others against Zest Optimal Global Services Ltd for non-payment of contract entitlements.

Presenting the third Report, the Committee frowned at the non-appearance of NNPC Ltd before the Committee with respect to a petition by a cooperative group; adding that the Committee exist to give a voice to citizens and communities who have exhausted other avenues of seeking redress.

Ruling on the Reports, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, who presided over the day’s Sitting deferred debate on the Reports to another Legislative Day.
