Residents demand probe over alleged same-sex scandal in Lagos

Tension has continued to trail an incident that allegedly occurred at a funeral gathering in Lagos on December 23, 2023, after a young man identified as Adisa Akorede Abudujelili was accused of engaging in same-sex activities, leading to public outrage and calls for his arrest.

According to sources familiar with the incident, Adisa reportedly attended the funeral ceremony to retrieve his international passport from his former fiancée, Mrs Bola Lawal, after their relationship had ended.
However, the situation reportedly turned dramatic after the woman allegedly revealed that she could no longer continue the relationship due to alleged evidence linking him to same-sex activities with another man identified simply as Mr Goriola.
Witnesses claimed that screenshots of chats, photographs and other alleged incriminating materials connected to Adisa and his suspected associate later circulated among people at the gathering, causing uproar among attendees and thereafter spread to the public
Sources further disclosed that the development forced the accused to flee the area as angry youths allegedly began trailing him following the exposure.
It was gathered that members of Adisa’s family subsequently appealed to the Lawal family to keep the matter private and prevent it from spreading further within the community.
In a recent development, relatives of Mrs Lawal, alongside members of the Akinyele family, reportedly submitted alleged evidence, including screenshots, photographs and videos, to security agencies and local groups, demanding investigation into the matter.
The families were said to have approached the police, local vigilante groups and members of the Oodua People’s Congress, urging authorities to ensure that Adisa Abudujelili and partners involved are brought to justice in line with the law.
Community sources alleged that several youths in the area have also continued to pressure security agencies to take action on the matter and fish out the same-sex suspects wherever they may be hiding in the country as their disappearance posed significant threats on the lives of young innocent individuals who may be lured into the illicit sexual acts
Although there has been no official confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force regarding arrests or formal charges, reports indicated that security operatives and local vigilante groups have intensified efforts to locate the suspects, who are said to have remained out of public sight since the incident.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from police authorities on the development were unsuccessful as of press time.
